  1. The Ostrich is the largest bird in the world. It also lays the largest eggs and has the fastest maximum running speed (97 kph or 60.273 mph).

  6. Flamingos pair for a lifetime. Some stay with their mates for 50 years or more.
  7. The penguin is the only bird that can swim, but not fly. It is also the only bird that walks upright.
  8. Owls turn their heads almost 360 degrees but they cannot move their eyes.
  9. A bird's heart beats 400 times per minute while resting and up to 1,000 beats per minute while flying.
  10. Around 20 percent of bird species migrate long distances every year.
